A slightly longer review reproducing two of the pictures from Maumené is by M. Virgile Brandicourt in Bulletin de la Société D'Horticulture de Picardie, Vol. 18, 9 Novembre, 1902, pp. 599-603.

Two other brief reviews, of sorts, of this book's subject can be found in La Revue blanche, Tome 28, pg. 462
and in Cosmos: revue des sciences et de leurs applications, Tome XLVIII, No. 939, 24 Janvier 1903, pg. 124.

Note: Per the references in Peter Del Tredici's article "From Temple to Terrace, The Remarkable Journey of the Oldest Bonsai in America" (Arnold Arboretum's Arnoldia 64/2-3, 2006) pg. 30, "An English translation of [Maumenés] work was published in 1908 in the Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society 33(1): 53-70."

On Feb. 9, 2009 our researches found a digitalized version of this text which we have now linked here.  Note that the original author's name is given as "Maumerné."  We have not yet done a detailed comparison, but we do know that there are several interesting new facts and additional pictures in the English version which is NOT a mere translation.

And now on Nov. 10, 2010 we've discovered a digitized version of the original manuscript, here.
