TBS: Our annual "Bonsai Swap & Shop" event will commence at 11:00
a.m. in the patio areas of the TBG educational building, followed by
our almost world-famous potluck lunch at 12:00 (please make
arrangements to bring your food dishes early, so we're not short when
we sit down to eat). Call Frank Venturella at 790-3847 to help
coordinate the dishes and balance out the meal (we really don't need
six salads and no desserts!). If you need to unload and setup
items for sale such as nursery plants, potted bonsai, tools, garden
equipment, etc., we'll begin setting up at 10:00. Our program will
begin at 1:00 p.m. with Paul Vasquez presenting our "show and tell"
tree. Our program will be a free-for-all "critique of material"
by the mentors (and anyone else who wants to join in) of untrained or
partially-trained plants for bonsai. You can bring a plant, or
use plants purchased at the swap & shop. This will flow into
our workshop, where you can commence to prune, wire, and style the
plant. LET'S DO LUNCH, BUY STUFF, AND DON'T FORGET THE AWESOME
RAFFLE!

TBS: Field Trip to scout for and collect native specimens. We'll
meet at 9:00 a.m. at Rosemont Junction. Take State highway 83
south of I-10 (the Sonoita-Patagonia exit) and it's about 12 miles to
the junction. At this time, we're not sure about road conditions
going into Rosemont; if roads have been cleared from summer storms,
we'll go there. If not, we'll go further down to Gardner Canyon,
for which we'll need pickup trucks and 4-wheelers to go further back
for Alligator juniper and oak. We should know for sure at the
Nov. 20 meeting, and we'll have complete details at that time. If
you don't sign up, call David at 749-4155 or 722-2000 to confirm your
reservation for the trip. New members and family/friends are
welcome to join us!

TBS: Special workshop and sale at the Meyer residence,
12:30-4:30. This program will take the place of our December
meeting, since we could not get our usual meeting room on Dec. 4 or 12,
and the 18th is too close to Christmas Day. Emphasis will be on
potting, but we can still do styling work (including woodcarving of jin
& shari, plus lime sulphur treatment) on various species,
especially conifers.
David and Judy will be having a special sale (newly arrived Chinese elms, save up to 40% on selected ficus and other tropicals; save 20% on new pots and up to 60% off on used pots.) Call your reservation to 749-4155 or 722-2000. Just in time for Christmas shopping! |

This 3-day event is well attended and an excellent opportunity to educate the public about the Art of Bonsai. This event is a great time to bring your Show Quality (trees trimmed, soil cleaned up, pots oiled) Bonsai for display. You can bring your own stand or the Club has many to choose from. This is a great time to volunteer to help set-up, take-down and work the booths at these shows. Spending time in the booths is one of the best educational and learning experiences you can take advantage of and for no cost at all. Talking to the Club Mentors and other Club Members with their years of experience is one of the best ways to advance and enhance your knowledge for the Art of Bonsai. You all have a tree that can be ready for the Show - start working on it and join in the events. |

Nominal fee parking in the parking garage just to the west. Set up under the large Lath House at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday; take down around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Includes at least one demonstration and a raffle of a tree. Again, every Arizona club member is invited to bring a tree or two or three. This 2-day event is a Japanese Celebration and also is well attended and another excellent opportunity to show and talk about the Art of Bonsai. This is another great time to bring your Show Quality (trees trimmed, soil cleaned up, pots oiled) Bonsai for display. You can bring your own stand or the Club has many to choose from. Repeat after me: "My trees will never look better than when they're on display next to other members' trees." Bring 'em down and hang out with us. (Review our thoughts on displaying.) |
